Borg & Warner 65 Auto box

I have had an annoying intermittent tapping/knocking from the front area of my B & W 65 auto box. It occurs mainly when hot and in park & neutral. It will also tap on low loads at low speeds, especially noticeable in built up areas. otherwise the box works very well with rapid smooth changes through the gears on acceleration. I have had hints from other sources that it could be a duff front pump??? Any advice would be welcome, also a recommended a good auto box service engineer in Wiltshire or adjacent counties.
    Cheers

FWIW I think your diagnosis is probably correct. Although another source could be drive plate bolts or cracks.
Do also check the viscous coupling.....worn ones tend to 'send' their noise to the bell housing.....no, really & it sounds terminal!

My type 35 had a noisy front pump.

Tried a couple of rebuilt units.

Ended up going to a ZF.

pumps are hard to find new.

    try JPAT bristol.

Thanks for your response. No viscous coupling, only a Kenlowe fan at the front of the rad. Auto box was serviced by Southampton T.S. while I rebuilt the engine. I reassembled the two and all seemed to be correct in the drive plate area. I'll give JPAT a call and see what they can do.
      Thanks again
