Thank you Mike, much appreciated, the reason I asked is that I have just acquired a Stag viscous coupling and fan and noticed that the fan had longer blades than the one on my car.
The one currently on my car are 4" long and on the fan I have just got are 5" which, based on your information, appears to be the correct length, I believe that some people have had to trim their fans to prevent the blades bending into the radiator.
Whilst I have not suffered overheating (I have have an electric fan as backup) I wonder what is the difference in air volume moved between the smaller blades @ 4" and the standard 5" blades, one for the boffins I think.
