    Upgrading front suspension

We plan to upgrade the front brakes to four pot calipers, being a bit concerned about how fast everyone else can stop, and vented discs, living in a mountain region with some tough downhills.

If we do this, we need to make sure the rest of the front suspension will support it all. Can anyone advise on the fitting of uprated or adjustable shocks and of a second anti-roll bar? And is there anything else we have missed?

    Many thanks,

    Louise

As long as your suspension is in good condition, you don't have to upgrade,me personally i would change all the rubber bushes to poly, have standard shocks, then fit your four pot brakes

Polly bushes sound advice as 40 year old rubber doesn't do the in handling any favours. I've got GAZ adjustable shocks all round. Well priced compared to Spax and just as good. There worth having as you don't have to have some ones else's idea of the perfect ride.

      Wilwood superlites are very good.

I agree with the order of upgrades with polys first.

I would also add in a change of brake pads on the standard calipers first. A £55 set of Mintex 1144 pads (other premium pads are available ) is a big improvement on the standard pads and a lot cheaper than 4 pots. It's true that it will result in disk wear, but it depends on how many miles you do are year on whether it will make much of a difference.

There are lots of topics on here about choice of brake pads.

My standard brakes are fine, I only have braided hoses with new discs and pads. I've fitted poly bushes with SPAX adjustable shocks all around. The front are a little too hard even on the softest setting. I have standard springs.

Some guys have fitted a BMW servo. Stagdad has wilwood calipers fitted.

I have the KYB front inserts from James paddock, slightly firmer than the standard items but they suit my lowered uprated springs perfectly, and not being adjustable are cheaper. I thought the original standard inserts were too soft for uprated springs.
I also have GAZ adjustables on my Stag engine estate, but I found I preferred them set fairly soft, probably similar to the KYBs in the end.
I am using yellowstuff pads on the front original calipers, I have found them relatively cheap and not too harsh on the discs, certainly withstand the heat far better than the greenstuff pads I have used in the past.
The cheap transit van based pads that are usually available really don't give much bite.

              Hi
That interesting about greenstuff pads from f/farmer, as I have just made a long descent down a very steep/narrow lane that required braking all the way down for about a mile and at the end had no brakes left. Will try yellowstuff and hope to see less brake fade.

I can only comment that having originally had a set of Mintex pads that were excellent, for the first time ever I had my car serviced by a specialist and (apart from other problems) the pads they fitted (no idea what they are) inspire no confidence when warmed up and squeak like hell!

I think i'll try some yellows myself

I changed from greenstuff pads that were supplied with the EBC discs to yellowstuff that speaking to EBC themselves is what they recommend and they have been much much better.

Would you know the code for the yellow stuff pads? Or does the EBC website list them for Stags?

Changed from Green ones to Mintex 1144 last winter, really confidence inspiring with good cold bite from cold, unlike the green ones.

                            Hi

Was thinking of replacing brake pads this winter and read this thread with interest but unfortunately your link just gives result

"TRIUMPH Stag 3.0 2016 - Sorry, no parts are listed for your vehicle"

Tried re-inserting details in their search but same result?

I've got Greenstuff pads fitted and the brakes are set up really well. I've always been pleased with their performance, as has my MOT tester, but driving the other day without the servo, I was very disappointed with their ability to slow the car down.....
