7" x 16" Minilite wheels on Rimmers website

Has anyone bought a set of these yet?

I'm toying with the idea but not sure what tyres would be the best size - I've found out the offset is ET6 which compared to my 6" x 14" minators which are ET30 seems about right using a comparison site.

I think probably 205/55 section as any wider may foul the suspension components but anyone have any thoughts or actually got some with tyres fitted on these wheels?

They look very nice on the Stag in the photo on Rimmers website page

    Cheers

I know I've said this before but its the tyre with you have to take into consideration because its (normally) wider than the rim. According to my calcs ( may have this wrong) if you had 185 x 70 before the new wheels would be 14mm further out from the suspension and 28mm further out from the wing. and the rolling circumference would be closer with 55's

      Hi Graham,

where the Tyre sits in relation to the car bodywork and suspension parts (struts etc.,) is dependent upon width of the wheel and the offset of the wheel be it positive or negative (that is the distance from the hub face to the centre line of the wheel).

Having tyre's too wide or with the wrong profile will definitely cause problems as will the wrong offset which brings the wheel either too far in on the hub or too far out.

      Cheers

I've actually just checked my Minators again and they are ET+22 so using the Minilites there would be 3mm more clearance on the inside and they would extend 29mm more on the outer edge - according to www.1010tires.com/Tools/Wheel-Offset-Calculator and also the better one www.willtheyfit.com

We are talking about positive offsets. I've just fitted my new wheels ( well nearly) the original wheels has a ET 25 the new wheels have a ET38 taking the wheel 13mm closer to the suspension the tyres are 205 which are 20mm wider than the original 10mm either side of the rim that has now taken the wheel 23mm closer to the suspension so now the new rim/tyre rub's on the front suspension leg to correct this I have fitted 15mm spacers and longer studs. the rears are fine. I am saying that if the ET on the new wheels less than the originals it will space the wheel further out which can then lead to the wheels sticking out past the bodywork.

They only tell you the clearance of the rim they do not calculate the width of the tyre. if you go into "will they fit" and put in your sizes, then change the tyre size the calculation stays the same. as said the tyre is wider than the rim its the tyre that will foul the suspension leg not the rim, unless you have a rim size wider than the tyre of course.

Oh totally agree on that yes but if the rim sits further away from the strut by virtue of its offset then so too will the tyre - provided its not too wide

I'll put it another way, as I have said the tyres I have chosen are 205 x 60 x 15 the rims are 6.6 and with those I have to fit 15mm spacers. If I drop the tyre size to 195 x 60 x 15 I would only need to fit 10mm spacers with the same size rim to get the same clearance.

Car bibles takes in the tyre size which is vital when calculating clearances when choosing wheels. Apart from the wheel dish to clear callipers
