Picked up a mag in Tesco's on the charity table, anybody's car on here?, also in the adverts is a boot board set in GRP with lift out tool tray, anybody got one of these?, will post anymore interesting bits later.
BTE 700L was Mike Wattam's car - he was a very significant officer of SOC in the early days and used to be Coordinator of Solent and New Forest area. SOC fell out with him back in the 90's; never really found out why but it broke up the area group and ended lots of excellent activities.
He did a lot of publicity for the club and his car was in lots of articles.
Not sure if he still has his car.
Christ!! I am pretty sure I remember buying that mag? Don't have it now, but is that the article where the car was his dad's? And the timing chain tensioner was missing or incorrectly fitted from the factory?

I spoke to Mile a number of times about 10 years ago, he was a great help and had a tremendous technical knowledge, which he expressed very clearly. I think he was an automotive consultant and author. He made detailed and concise answers to many posts on the other Stag forum, stagnet? (DJT will know). I understood there was a fall out with the SOC, which was a shame and a great loss to the club. Car is currently on SORN.
That forum, Triumpstag.net, isn't online anymore. It closed down a while ago which is a shame as it was an excellent resource of info and worked well, despite being technical only....

Thanks Dave, I knew I could rely on you, yes there were some good people on there including Peter Howells. A bit dry and not so easy to read as previous posts were repeated but an excellent reference from people who knew what they were talking about. Shame it's closed.

I found my Stag through either that forum or the Stag Digest mailing list, back in the day! I went for lunch in central London a couple of times with Peter Howells, Mike Wattam and a handful of others, all organised through the mailing list. There were a couple of runs around the West London area too. I haven't seen Mike for years though.

I was quite active on the mailing list, as long ago as pre 2000 well before the SOC Web based forum existed
The last email stag-digest I received was 20th November last year with no indication it was ceasing.
Back in the day, it was the only resource to reach out for any guidance, and give guidance, on a relatively short timescale.
I'm looking at some old emails now, with lots of familiar members of the list, mostly American of course being US based mailing list, where are they now?
