Before I go making one of these, has anyone else made and/or useda head removal tool that pulls the heads clear of any studs that are either jammed or snapped off?

The rope trick is risky, puts excessive strain on the big ends - not a good idea on the Stag crank.
Thanks for the tip on Howard Vesey, I might need to follow that up.

Have you tried slamming it in reverse at 40mph? Or do you have an auto?
I have removed my heads and as long as you get as much clear around the area you are working from the better. I had to hand cut through 5 head studs but when head was free, they just undid easily

Have to be careful where you place the jack on the head though.

The Stag Owners Club USA have developed a jig for removing cylinder heads. I am currently hunting for the article I read but as far as I can remember it had a plate that bolted onto the inlet manifold bolt holes, and had bolts that pushed directly onto the studs thereby lifting the head. I think the article said that it had never failed!
