Tilting Car Lift for Stag - any recommendation ?

    Gurus,
Anybody used a car tilter on a Stag - and have some good experience to share ?

Looking at something like this one - but am wondering about the dimensions, contact points, and general usability to do stuff !
Simple things like changing gearbox and diff oil to exhaust and diff removal - do they work ?

    Thanks !

As Dasadrew says check out that thread (and others, try garage lift or some such concoction) where it's been covered in depth. Just beware any lift that won't allow total clear access down the centre, the tilting lifts and some of the scissors ( not mine) have their mechanics/hydraulics and lots of junk in the way which you have to work around.

Can't you get the lifting platforms to locate upon the under car "chassis subframe" mouldings either side of the gearbox aperture in the floor ?

Yes you can adjust the lift ive got so it will lift from the sills or make it shorter to lift on the chassis rails

Beware using 2 post lifts unless you really investigate their fitment to the floor. Most will need up to a 5 bolt fitting into 3000 lb quality reinforced concrete (that is NOT the standard concrete for garage floors when built with a house). Make sure you get it right or the the lift will try to kill you !
Out of all the lifts their fitments are the most critical, the scissor lifts etc have large cassette type bases which spread the loads into the floor and you can get away with a lot worse garage base.

Micky, thanks very much for your concerns. Everything you say is correct. As an avid reader of this forum I always enjoy your contributions and experienced advice. I am building a new workshop to start the restoration of my Stag which I have owned since 1979. It is a 78 model. In accordance with LOLER regulations ( Lifting Operations & Lifting Equipment Regulations) the workshop will have a 9" tk floor in 3000lb quality concrete for the lift foundations. Some manufacturers/suppliers state that 6" is sufficient. This is not so. I am an engineer who works with LOLER regulations every day in the construction industry. I will have the lift tested and certified by an independent inspection authority before use. In a commercial garage a lift must be inspected every 6 months and tested annually.
I am looking forward to starting my restoration and will open a thread to report progress.

                        Cheers

                        John
