    Identifying Auto Gearbox Type

    Hi,

    Was wondering if there is a really easy way to identify which type of auto gearbox is fitted either from the engine bay or by peering underneath or do I need to jack the car up and crawl under to have a look.

    Have the pics from Rimmer catalogue but was wondering if there are easier tell tale signs.

    Hi Steve,

    I think the 35 auto has a splined shaft on the prop shaft at the gearbox end, whereas the 65 auto has a flange.

    So the 65 auto prop shaft has a flange at both ends, and the 35 auto a flange at one end (diff end).

      The easiest way is to peer underneath and see if the prop has 4 bolts connecting it to the gearbox (BW65) or not (BW35 has a splined shaft so no bolts)

          On another issue.

          I see Robsport are offering new replacement gearbox for 350 pounds which sounds quite reasonable for what I need. I am a bit surprised that new Gearbox's actually still exist for the Stag, can that be.

          I have never used RobSport before, anyone used them for this type of thing?

          I have to get this exported to me so need to ensure I use the right people.

          Anyone coming to Switzerland soon who can drop off a gearbox for me

          Always worth asking you never know .....

            Thats a good price my bw35 to have reconditionedand new torque converter came to £719.80 in feb 2006.

              That what I thought which is why I was asking. The price on their home page is < 500 Quid ex vat for new torque converter and auto gearbox
