    Stag garage

What is the concensus on the MINIMUM PRACTICAL clearance that would be needed to work around a Stag?
Say if Stag was in a single garage with walls around three sides.
Need to allow room say standing working on car up on scissor lift or on ground working crouched/squatting on brakes say.
    All thoughts welcome of course.
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Hi

In my experience the minimum would be the width of the car with both door fully open and with with room for a work table at one end.

That would be Heaven ,I have 6 inches at the front ,and can open both doors halfway ,with 2 inches at the rear .

        Hi

Im in heaven then, as I have 2 garages. One is attached to the house where Mr stag lives and a detached garage which can hold up to 4 cars plus all the junk.

My scissor lift is set centrally into the floor of the garage with 22" on either side of the outside of the scissor lift platforms, the Stag sits centrally on the ramps with a 4" overlap of the scissor ramp platforms to the outside of the Stag. Hence there is a 26" working space to the outside of the Stag to either side, I find this just enough.

With a scissor lift don't forget the height of the garage with the bonnet open. Don't ask how I know the importance of this; let's just say it was a lucky escape!
            The answer isn't 42, it's 1/137

How long is a piece of string?

Make the garage as big as possible.

Don't quite get the question really!

Perhaps I am missing something, sorry.

Think there is a space restriction that prevents that and Mark is trying to work out if the space he's got will enable him to work on a Stag either on or off a scissor lift. Just me surmising.

I think ,for future reference I would have a garage built to house a larger car ,because when I got mine ,i was restoring Morris Minors ,followed by MGB's ,both are tiny compared to a stag ,luckily I went a little bigger ,never thinking I would buy a stag !
Therefore knowing the size of an open door stag etc will be very useful ,when I move house .

                  cheers Alex

My mechanic friend has limited headroom in his workshop. He uses a bus mirror that shows proximity of car to ceiling whilst standing at the 2-post lift control.

Thanks eveyone, very interesting. I am actually outlining a detached double garage. I would love it to be as large as possible but funds, space and I just know my immediate neighbour will object to planning. The idea of allowing room for the doors to be open is a good one, never thought about that. I was thinking of allowing about 800 to 900 mm. Obviously. With a double garage, I have limitless space on one side. The scissor lift will be central on one of the 7 ft 6" doors. If I can't achieve a size that works, I'll just stick with the integral single garage.

That's OK, you have to remember not everyone can be at the front of the queue
