    Wheel paint

My Stag has Cosmic alloys at the moment but the the original painted Stag wheels came with the car I did consider having them diamond cut and selling the Cosmics to pay for it .
I checked the Stag wheels out and they are in very good condition the silver paint is near perfect but the Black paint can be easily removed with a thumb nail . If I can remove all the loose black paint any suggestions for a good black paint to use ?

I did wonder about Hammerite Thanks
Just wondered if there was a special heat resistant paint .

        There is.

Why not have them powder coated?

The silver paint on the wheels is in very good condition . I am not sure about Powder coating as I have it on another car and it is crazing due to the heat from the brakes unless it was not done properly .

I may have misinterpreted your original post, Derek, but where is the silver paint on the Stag wheels? They should be polished alloy, with black on the recessed parts of the spokes and the centre hub. If using Hammerite, be prepared to wait for it to harden as the modern stuff seems to take ages, and use their special primer for non-ferrous (aluminium) metal.

When I did mine I used black engine enamel.

I needed to paint some slightly rusty steel white last week and found a tin of original Hammerite Smooth in a cupboard. That dried in about 20 minutes, ready for another coat, unlike their current offerings...

Thanks for the warning . They do not make anything the same now a days. I may consider having them Diamond cut as I went to Robsport today and there was one in there with diamond cut wheels they did look nice although they had light grey paint in the recesses. The only thing that puts me off is one site I looked at, states they do not expect life of the lacquer to last very long and will in time show signs of pitting which was worrying.

                Dont lacquer, just wax.

That's the stuff but any wax is better than none.
