    Jackshaft Supplier

    Hi all, sorry to bring this old gem up. Done a search on the forum but don't seem to have a definitive answer. I recall something about poorly made gears on either the new jackshafts or new water pumps, can anybody recall which? If its the jackshafts that were dodgy, does anybody know the best place to source a good one?

    The reason I ask is that I have one with mildly worn (can feel a lip on teeth with a screwdriver) dissy/oil pump teeth that I would ideally like to replace, but unless I'm certain I'm going to get a good quality part id rather leave this one in. The only places that currently have them in stock are robsport who are double the price of anyone else and rimmers.

      If you can find a used but unworn jackshaft (that's what I did) then that would be your best bet. I married it to a used TR7 waterpump skew gear fitted onto the water pump and they are both still working.

        All the jackshafts most likely come from the same supplier.

        I had to fit a new shaft to my last engine build as like yours the oil pump drive was worn. What bothered me was the deepest part of the worn area was a slightly different colour and I wondered whether the teeth were surface hardened and the hardening had worn through, in which case wear would then rapidly accelerate.

        The brothers still have their 15% off sale at the moment, makes them slightly cheaper than Robsport who are only a fiver dearer than Paddocks who are out of stock.

          Thanks for your replies, sounds like it may be still a bit hit and miss.

          Has anybody had gear issues with the shaft that are currently on sale?

          If your shaft is an original in good nick I would be interested Steve, that's if you want to sell it?

          I've tried to scratch the teeth on mine with a pick which I cant, suggesting it may not have worn through the hardening yet but that technique isn't exactly definitive although I have used it before on gears.

              Can't remember who I had the shaft from, and it has only done about 7000 miles since it went back together so I am hoping that I don't see it again for a considerable amount of time!
