    Christmas is round the corner

    Hi All

My better half has asked me this morning if there is anything I need for the Stag or garage for Christmas and my birthday (yes they fall together)

Apart from a new interior engine full bodywork etc which we both laughed at I said there is one thing that I could do with as I have to keep borrowing them from a local garage.

What I do need is a tap and die set that covers the triumph marquee. Has anyone got some advice on kits, sizes, where to get etc.

I do have some that my Dad left me in his engineers tool box but they never seem to be the correct pitch or thread size. So any help here will narrow down the search.

You need a basic UNC/UNF tap & die set. Places like Machine Mart do a suitable one: https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/cht3...e-tap-die-set/

Bear in mind that this is at the cheaper end of the market and there are better quality ones around. Saying that, I have been using a similar set for the past 20 years and haven't had an issue with it so far.................

Just bear in mind that they aren't top quality, but they have been fine for cleaning up threads and cutting the occasional thread from scratch. Just don't rush it as a snapped tap is a blighter to get out again, as I found out many years ago with an old tap....

I know many years of bolt extraction when searing off and rustted solid. What's worst is an extractor, they are extreamly hard and only a tunstion tip drill has a chance.

Also when using these tools always use a cutting fluid/grease (Rocol is good) It makes the job easier less likely to break and they stay sharper longer. Aluminium use Kerosene or WD40 or the likes of.
