Horn Stalk - Can you dismantle it?

Hi Does anyone know if you can dismantle the actual horn / indicator stalk. Have no horn sound and wondered if there was a switch or clip inside that needed cleaning.
I mean in the actual horn push end not the steering column end - I have done that and all seems ok.

let me know if you know how to do it without me breaking it.

    cheers

Yes, you can remove the end cap with reasonable force without damaging it. It will reveal a pair of copper terminals, and a spring, the end cap also holds an earthing ring which completes the circuit when the switch is pressed.

The end snaps back on quite easily.

        Hi thanks.
how do you get it off - twist or pull in the opposite direction to the "push function".
please advise if you can be more specific.

        cheers

          I pulled mine off.
I might have used a blunt knife to help but it's just a snapped together plastic item. Mine wasn't on the car when I did it though.

I removed mine too years back for a similar problem, got a slim screwdriver behind one side of the end and prised it off - as mole says it's just a clip on end.

I did the other wiper/washer side a few days ago, after the 2 springs and ball bearings flew out you realise how big the Stag is inside. Took me a day to find all the bits

Hi All - Just to complete the story on this. Did as Mister G suggested and took the end of the horn stalk. No apparent issues there - it was still showing 1.2 v across the brass contacts.
Jiggled with some fuses and wires, no real effect.
Swapped the horns (for a new pair of high and low sounding ones) and bingo once they had been earthed properly. Now fitted them and removed the old single horn. Odd thing though, the old horn only had a single feed wire and no earth - but did work up to recently. I could not get the old horn to work even with trying to re-earth it.
Anyway I have horns again now.
                thanks for the help

                cheers

Glad you're sorted. The old horns were presumably earthed through their mountings (never needed to investigate my own!).

PS - presume you meant "12V" (not 1.2V)
