Hot and cold clonks from Type 65 auto

    Hi All
My car has a type 65 auto box. When cold, even with the engine running fast on choke, I can move between drive neutral and reverse with just a very light thump as expected. As the car gets hotter the thump gets more pronounced, especially moving to reverse. No problem on normal driving. The idle speed when hot is about 650/700 in drive rising to about 750/800 in neutral. This seems to be the opposite to other similar posts where the clonking or thumping is worse when running fast on choke. Any ideas?

    Many thanks in advance

    John

Try dropping the idle speed to 650 in neutral.

Thanks Dave. I did try slowing the idle down a bit more but there seems to be no more adjustment on the stop screws?

The carb "link" rods with the rubber (or metal) ends can be adjusted for length also and can make a difference.

My Stag (also BW65) exhibits exactly the same symptoms. i.e. smooth selection when cold and thump when hot.

I have got the hot idle speed down to about 500rpm but it made no difference.

However I think this is normal as the BW35 on my Daimler V8 shows the same effect although the thump when hot is not quite as pronounced.

                regards
