    No hassle restoration method!

I was having lunch with my wife in a pub in Oxfordshire and could not help overhear the conversation on the next table. It was a swiss couple discussing the the restoration of their type 35 Bugatti. They have had the car collected from Switzerland and then flown over to discuss the restoration. Complete body refurb, new leather interior and new hood. The guy from the restorers (Bugatti specialists) said the price was going to be 'around £100K' the only comment from the owners was that money was not important , the job had to be 'right' and it must be ready for the husband's birthday next april.

This method seems to take all the pain out of restoring a car, I wish I had restored my Stag this way - Oh I just remembered why I didn't, I was £99K short!

The Swiss couple weren't members of FIFA by any chance were they, or Football Agents!?

The only trouble being "it has to be right " some body shops can't ever achieve this no matter how much money you give them.
Some of theses cars boot tool kits change hands for 50k and above. So a 100k is cheap I expect it's just a blow over and free bubblegum smelly hanging from the mirror

Send it to Terry, he could get a first class job done for £1k.

Having looked at the Honda again today in sunlight, Geordie Paul who did it really has made an excellent job of it for the €900 he charged.

My neighbour told me an acquaintance of his who lives in our town built a £40K extension, which consisted of not much more than a large garage, climate controlled, to his house in order to store his DB5 which had just undergone a 2 year full restoration. It is apparently one of the last 15 remaining which had the proper silver colour of the Bond car. I haven't clapped eyes on it but by all accounts it is stunning, and is insured for £450K.

Will they appreciate it when it's done?

It may be under valued now?

on the ferry back from Le Mans I got chatting to a chap who has a DB5, had it since 1977. Said it's not the best or most comfortable car. Lots of heat from the bulk head and from the exhaust through the floor!

                  Ill stick with my Stag

                    Hi Alan

Firstly every village, swiss or otherwise, needs an idiot

100k does sound cheap for a type 35. having seen them in the flesh they are exquisite. they are worth whatever it takes a fan to rebuild one. If money was no object and I could in fact fit into a type 35 I would pay to save as much of the original as possible and under no circumstances paint it.

Dunno about that. As I go through life I often get the feeling that there are a few villages which are missing theirs!

I suppose the 'whether to paint' question depends on whether the paint is original or not. Their chosen colour is British racing green, They also discussed a Japanese collector that had just had his sprayed pink! Personally I think they should all be French racing blue.

If restoration with limited physical input with costs for a more reasonable amount are what you require you may consider this operation ?

Situated in the Philippines the cost for transporting your car there (less than £5k I've been told) is recuperated by the much more affordable restoration being offered.

Impressive work. Who is going to be the first to send a Stag there?
