    A question for the experts

Just replaced my stearing lock as I suspect the other. The one on the left in the photo is the old lock the right a mark 1 the new lock

The left one has a soft feel to turning with minimal position notification. The right one is positive and also locks the steering column. ( the old one didn't)

My question is "is the old one from a stag or a retro fit if so from where?".

Also the wiring plug socket is about 1/4" longer than the mark 1 now fitted making the possibility that the LIght switch and ignition could have touched when fiddling with the light switch. Which I now believe was the cause of the fire down the stearing column.

      It's because you said "experts".

I'm not an expert but I think the left one is a 3rd party piece, it doesn't look like my memory of the proper job.

Well it's not going on my car this time around. What with the stearing wheel being an unknown also I just wonder what other mods have been done.

That is a bit suspect / dodgy, you're right to be concerned if other mods to that standard were carried out.

One is stag. The other may be Land Rover Defender, but seems risky to fit a safety item that doesn't fit.

AFAIAA, the switch might be common, but not the lock.

FWIW the 'lock-man' via ebay aka 'willmott breeden' (s.p?) did me very proud for a matching set of stag locks, with 2 or 3 spare matching keys, in leyland-style.

At one time i had thought i would need to buy a whole scrap car to get a set of matching locks @ £800/900, managed to get them for £65 in the end from the lock man.

            Thank you

How do I locate the lock man?

He only seems to be on eBay, go to this page and click on "Contact" then tick the box "this is not about an item" and a message box will appear.

Curiously he has nothing for sale at the moment.
