    Anti Vibration Straps on gearbox?

Hi and merry Christmas to you all.

I noticed in the Haynes manual it shows a pair of anti vibration straps on the bottom of the engine from the aft edge of the engine, clearing the bell housing and attaching to the box - apparently not fitted to earlier cars.

Are these on manual versions please?

Mine doesn't have any and I'm wondering if it's worth fitting them?

    Thanks

    Mark

Some of the early manual boxes don't have them fitted, one of mine didn't.

Don't know how much they do, but I welded some brackets to the sump and fitted a set to my last Stag while it was in bits. I figured that if they were needed on the later cars then it would do no harm to retrofit some to my early engine and box.

I have the same issue, but it was from an early Auto engined car, so I think its not just manuals, just early cars.

If you find them please tell!!

I have found a breaker that has some and I'll be happy to pass on his details but he reckons they're only on autos. Can any other manual drivers confirm if they have any fitted please?

Hope you have all had a good christmas

On the basis that a lot of people don't seem to have them on a variety of ages of Stag, and don't seem to notice any difference, it probably doesn't really matter.

Knowing British Leylands quality control they probably couldn't be bothered to fit them!

Out of interest, if the bellhousing is tightened, why the would you need these bars as the engine cant flex with the gearbox surely?

My thoughts exactly Andrew. I think I'll do my back a favour and leave it be.

If anyone needs them a good number of a breaker, i use Alan on 07830 226461

According to the Rimmers catalogue and the BL Parts catalogue these are fitted only to automatics

They were fitted to a cure drive line vibration problem on Auto's It's in the JT book page 51.
