Borg Warner Type 35 Gearbox rebuild

For those that are interested there is a workshop article in this months Practical Classics magazineon rebuilding a BW35 gearbox. Its the 1st of a 3 part rebuild.

Its froma Rover P6, but i assume its the same as the 'box found in the early Stags.

Haven't seenbut the problem I found is getting the parts. They must be available somewhere....Have done many in the past and pretty easy apart from replacing one of the clutch pistons.

Yes, I bought a large box of new BW 35 rebuild spares from a clearout at "a-near-a largelondon airport stag speciallist" who was selling at triumph international stoneleigh.

When I got home I found most of the parts were indeed BW 35 rebuild spares.........

That were taken out of a worn gearbox and hidden in the new parts boxes.

The only new parts were things that hadnt been used in the rebuild. like o rings and torrington races......They were sprinked on the top as a garnish.

so perhaps bw35 spares are getting scarcer.

I did find a listing from a bristol based firm once though.

Buyer beware indeed. Such "people" should be forced to spend their remaining years replacing Stag heater units.

Reminded me when we in Florida this year and my 8yr old bought a cheap pack ofswap cards. Wasn't till later he discovered the top cards were genuine, underneath were bits of cardboard. That said, back home he found the genuine cards were so rare he swapped a handfull for each!

          *******s :X

I'd put the bits in envelopes and post it back to em without a stamp.

I wonder if that specialist is anything to do with the recon head specialist who used to operate in the same area back in the late 80's - the a series head that I got off them was worse than the unit that I was trying to part ex

We had to go all medieval on them to get our money back.

I have just been poking around on the net, I can't remember what I was looking for now, but I came across these guys: http://www.jpat.co.uk/index.htm They Stock BW parts.

Their Parts catalogue is here: http://www.jpat.co.uk/jpat_pdfs/BW%2010_08_1998.pdf (The first page is completely blank so don't be surprised if nothing appears on your screen!). They list parts for BW 8 to BW 66.

I don't know anything about them at all but I thought it might be useful for someone.

            Regards

            Dave

Dave, that looks really good. I hadn't heard of them but they look like good, I guess whether they can supply the parts listed in their catalogues will be the proof. Apart from BW, I'd also be interested should/when I go the ZF root.

I mention "supply the parts listed" - when I first bought a Stagearly 90's it had a blownauto box and rumbly bottom end. I naively thought that as all parts were listed insuppliers catalogues they were shelf items......"reground crank sir? Certainly as long as yours is reconditionable otherwise you can't 'ave it"
