    Hard top hoist CofG?

Can any of you who have a hoist in the garage roof tell me how far back from the front of the hard top is the centre of gravity?
I have a new garage and I'm going to finally fit the manual winch to a batten across, but I don't know where to install it!
Any help with measurements gratefully received.

If I remember correctly it's around the middle (ish) of the side windows?

If I remember correctly ...it can be found on the search facility, always worth trying there first.

I'm at the same point you are just starting out fitting a hoist
I don't fancy using a single lateral bar though and am thinking of having two, one just in front of the B pillars and the other through the windows as described above
Just trying to avoid it rocking on a single bar
IIRC there were some pics and a post from Julian Leyton when he did his hoist system in his new and very swanky garage

These might help - they are on the forum search!

If using only 1 roofrack bar, its just behind the chrome B pillars almost where the glass starts

Thanks guys, just what I needed.

Mickey & Kevin - I did use the search but it came up with only an approximation. The search function is only as good as the search term you enter, and I usually manage to ask something it doesn't understand!

Thanks from me as well, I had not thought about roof rack bars (Kevin) but a good idea as my headroom is limited

I did buy a roof rack but found the easiest way was to open the rear quarterlights and fead a 2-3 inch wideIMAG0704.jpgIMAG0704.jpg strap through the hard top and winch it centrally from the top.To stop the hard top spinning around, just secure at the front(through the front handles)with a smaller strap.
These are earlier photos before I used the wider strap-just through the windows,,as far forward as possible.

I suspend mine from a single piece of 4 x 2 using a single packing strap that is looped twice under the roof, once just behind the electric connecting pins and the other through the rear quarterlights, which I then close to stop it slipping. The hard top is still a little rear heavy when raised like this but I just lift the back with my hand as I raise the hardtop. I then position wooden support beams front and back when it is up in the roof so that the lifting gear is not taking the weight while in storage.

Does anyone know what it weighs? I know it's a two man lift, while my old TR6 HT could just be handled by me.

It's been asked before - about 70kg seems to be about right.
