    Front Springs Rover Motor

    Hello,
I am working my way through the puzzles of someone else's modifications.
I have read that I will need different front springs due to the lighter Rover block fitted.
How can I tell if they are already fitted?
If I need new ones, where would I get them from?
Another issue, to clear the sump the cross member has been packed out by about an inch.
Will this have an adverse effect on the camber?
    Thank you
    Michael

Am led to believe the springs from the saloon range ie 2000/2500 give a better ride height-an inch seems a lot to lower the cross member normally spacers about 10mm are fitted-wouldn't have thought the camber would be affected but someone will know better than me probably. I think the ride height you are after is about 14.5 ins from the centre of the wheel to wheel arch.
    Rob.

Have a chat with Ian at Monarch, he'll give you all the advice and parts you need.

Michael, if you have the RV8 fitted and have standard springs the front of the car will be very, very high, if you have springs for the RV8 the car should sit level. You would know if you had the correct springs or not.

          Michael, Hi.
As stated by others above, Monarch will be able to provide proper springs for the RV8 setup. I run with their progressive springs and find them really good.

The plate between the chassis and crossmember will slightly alter the lateral location of the ball joint because it will alter the angle of the arm, leveling it out slightly. The change in angle will be little and would not hugely affect the camber angle. The change it would infer is a slight negative increase. I have deliberately altered the negative camber in mine by changing the spacers between the brake caliper and the strut which IMO has slightly improved turn in to corners.

I run my RV8 without the spacer. Without the spacer only things you need to watch out for is the power steering pipe in the middle of the rack and the proximity of the header manifold to the offside chassis rail.

          John.

+1 He is very helpful, you should definitely know if you have the wrong springs, the handling on mine was dreadful before I changed them - very "floaty"

I'm pretty sure my Mk 1 I bought over 20 years ago with an RV8 had 'cut down' springs. Glad I never got to drive it!

                Thank you everyone.
She is up in the air as I took the cross member off to check the sump and oil pick up were clean. They were.
I shall let you know the dimensions when I reassemble, probably a few weeks away.
New calipers and brake lines next.
Ordered loads of bits from Rimmers yesterday afternoon, they were here this morning!
