    Starter Motor removal

I am attempting to remove the starter motor on my mk2 Stag. It's proving to be a big pain. It's too big to lift out from underneath. The main problem is that the power steering box is in the way. I'm guessing I need to remove this in order to get the starter motor out. Can anyone give me any helpful tips on how I can get the starter motor out?

Starter motor on a Stag is fitted at the back of the engine on the other side from the PAS pump. HAve you got a Rover engine in there, I'm less familiar with that one.

2 bolts of which the top one is a right pig! Needs lots of nuckle socket thingies.

Check out the "engine section" in the technical forum.

Is it a Left Hand Drive car? It does make starter removal a bit more of a nuisance

Thanks for the replies. Yes I have the Rover V8 and it's a right hand drive. I've disconnected the power steering lines that go into this box and now I expect. I have to move this box too. It's a real pain as all I need are a few mm of clearance. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Also apologies if I've misused some terminology. My power steering pump is on the left at the top of the engine and the lines from it go to the box on the steering column.

ps I've managed to undo the bolts and yes it was difficult. Managed to do it without removing the exhaust so far. I miss the ease of my old VWs to work on lol

As I suspected. Over to the Rover experts, mines a Triumph engine so getting the starter out is a whole different box'o'frogs....
