Wheeler Dealers - Test Piston Rings with Petrol?

Folks,

Am I mad or do I recall an episode of Wheeler Dealers where Edd China stripped the engine and filled the cylinders with petrol to see if the rings around the pistons were still in good condition? My recollection was that the level in one cylinder dropped lower than the others and therefore indicated new rings were needed.

No, it was the cylinder head to check the valves had been lapped correctly or signs of wear
