    bumper assembly

fitting my bumpers and I'm in need of a little catch 22 advice.

Ive assembled the bumper completely and I'm trying to fit it as one unit. However it looks asymmetrical so I'm wondering if i should take it off and try again. I'm thinking if I assemble it loosely and then refit it I can juggle it all into line. But I'm not sure I can then get to the fixings the tighten it all back together.

    What have others done.

    thanks

    Gary

Gary. It is intended to be fully assembled first, and then fitted to the car. As you say, it would be almost impossible to tighten it up once it is in place.
If it is not parallel with the chrome trim on the rear panel, then perhaps the panel is slightly distorted at the mounting points, or a mounting bracket may be bent. I think you need to be a bit heavy handed and try to get it level by heaving it about at the mounting points. You may be surprised how easy it is to "Adjust" them!

its the front bumper I'm doing at the minute, the rear is next. I'm now wondering if the brackets may be slightly handed i.e. modified shape to fit as the bumper I removed fitted very nicely even if the chrome wasn't quite as good.

          thanks for the reply, Mike

I assembled the rear bumper indoors on the floor so that I knew it was all going to be level on the car and tightened it all up as one and it fitted well and looks straight on the car

There is quite a lot of adjustment available on the fixings to the wings, if you loosen them a bit and then loosen the main chassis leg fixings you can level the front and bend the sides to look right. Tighten the wing fixing bolts and voila!

some serious faffing tonight and the front bumper is on, straight, symmetrical and looking fabulous.

3 Hours, bumper on, off, on, off and on again. Headlights out, brackets swapped, hands, arms and knees in a mess.

Cant wait to get cracking on the rear!

thanks for the advice chaps, yes you can tighten the overrider nuts and bracket bolts with the bumper in place.
