As you can guess by my moniker, I bought mine to replace a TR5 whose value had become a burden. I nearly bought a TR6 and despite some huge bills since June 2013, I'm so glad I didn't now. I find the Stag a joy to drive. Though automatic, I get a similar sense of involvement as I did with the TRs but without being bounced and shaken around. It's a very civilised car with a lovely exhaust note (the Stag, I mean). I feel that I could jump in it and drive to John O' Groats in a day and get out feeling fresh as a daisy.

As a young man I drove old BMCs and Escorts as a Triumoh was always outside my budget. But I always loved the Michelotti cars. If money were no object, I'd fill my driveway with old Triumphs. I'd buy back my 5, get a Dolomite Sprint, and an 1850 HL, a 2 litre Vitesse saloon and a GT6. This last I would fit with a breathed on TR5 engine with eFI and engage in lurid powerslides on local roundabouts in the early hours.

I've been a 2.5PI sufferer for 30 years but after the abominations of a new French car (electric power steering!) then a new German car (new scheduled brake system at 30,000 mile service!) "for business" I decided that another PI was a good idea but not different enough. So the Stag was acquired, insurance arranged including "for use for the owner's business", and heads turned whenever I arrived at a site meeting.
At least I can fix most of it myself.

'Anyway, after a couple weeks, I tried to contact her, but she never replied, found out a mate of mine (and I use that term lightly) overheard our conversation, and got in contact with her within days and bought the stag from under me ..'

          What an utter s£"/!

Indeed, suffice to say, I haven't spoke to him since, the best part of the story is that to beat me to it he bought the car unseen and paid £3500 for it, and from what I have heard back through friends of friends, the engine is seized solid, it's got rust like you have never seen, and most of the interior has had mice living in it for God knows how long ..

Of course I would have seen it before buying it .. and probably offered her 800 quid or something .. but at least there is karma in this world ..

                Because I like them!

bought mine just over 10 years ago to replace my MGB GT because my son was getting too big. He now seems to be getting too big for the Stag. So he'all have to stay at home when we go on holiday in it, or wife will have to sit in the back. (Son is 11 almost 12)

Wanted a TR5 but couldn't afford one so bought a Stag, glad i did coz I can share the fun with three passengers. All I want to complete my collection is a lotus Elan S4, but it looks like that will have to wait until I win the lottery.
I love deadlines - I like the whooshing sound they make as they pass by!

As a medical student in the late 1970's I fell in love with the Stag while being driven around the country lanes south of Manchester by the GP I was attached to. 40+ years later I now have the money and time to own one. Always had sensible, reasonably priced family cars up to now.
