    Rear Bumper

The centre section of my rear bumper has a couple of small dents in it, it is an original bumper and it is rust free, the chrome doesn't appear to be damaged. I have pulled the bumper apart.

Does anybody have any ideas howI may remove the dents?

I was thinking of stricking a wooden block onto the dent with a sandbag on the other side to absorb the force.

    Thanks in advance,

    Raoul

Steady pressure would befar saferthan striking it. Chrome is a very hard brittle material, and re-flexing it back to original shape may well crack it.

My advice would be to find somewhere with a fly press and use a large sandbag on the chrome side and a piece of suitable diameter steel bar matched to the inside radius of the bumper to push on the dent.

      Hi Raoul

The way I have seen this done is to use localise heat so it doesn't crack the metaland a shrinking hammer and dollies to remove the dent then the bumper re chromed.

1st - Thanks for your good wishes.
2nd - Do you have a large G-clamp (see pic), which you could fit round the bump. You would need something to absorb the pressure on the chrome side without damaging it, and a piece of wood or metal shaped to inside of your bumper to go inside where the damage is. You could then tighten the clamp up to push it back to shape. Just a thought but I'm no expert on damage repairs.

          Thanks for the suggestions guys,

I managed to knock them out with some hardwood shaped to the profile of the bumper, a sandbag and a big hammer! I'm really happy with the result.

As I was working on it, my neighbour came over and on hearing the banging, quoted, "If you can't fix it with a hammer, it must be an electrical problem!"

          regards,

          Raoul
