    major hesitation - coil?

    Hi, relative newbie here.
Had this 1972 manual stag for 3 years - of miraculous reliability! - just as well as i'm not highly skilled !
Now I have an increasingly frequent major hesitation. Car in fact starts fine and runs fine apart from this problem which now occurs every mile of so - in various conditions, though generally low load

I think its ignition related - as comes and goes very quickly, but tacho drops right down -

I haven't really done anything yet other than check rotor arm & cap - both seem ok. It has elec ignition from Jolley Engineering.

Coil related perhaps? Any ideas where I should start?

    Thanks

If tacho drops, it is the low voltage side of the ignition failing.

Usually a bad connection somewhere. If this is anything like a Lumenition, a common weak point is the connector between the amplifier and the distributor.

I had this same experience a few weeks back, turned out to be the carbon brush in the centre of the distributer cap had completely disintegrated. A new cap fixed the problem
