The reason I asked about some of the electrical features is because, although it's easy to fit alloys to a Mk1 or stainless sill covers or a black painted rear panel, it's a lot harder to take the wiring loom out and fit to another car.
Is it a private seller?
Does the seller seem okay or not?
Is there any history - I got photos from the rebuild plus all the bills going back to when the car was three years old with mine.
Is the car the right price for what you are looking at?
What does your gut say? Remember - if you don't feel right about the car and walk away, there will be another Stag for you to look at tomorrow. It's getting towards warmer weather and everyone who wants to sell a Stag will be expecting top dollar around Easter.
No provenance, no history, a couple photos of the rebuild but no evidence of when it was done, not low miles, some old bills with no dates on, MOTs going back 3-4 years on HPI check, top dollar price tag but a lovely car, just doesn't feel right having a mk2 registered in the mk1 era.
That is up there price wise for sure, but for a fully restored Stag it is alright - if legit!
I suppose only you can know what you want, but bear in mind a restored car is just that - it is not original anymore and years back people made their Stags look newer by retro-fitting newer parts.
As H says, you can check MOT history further back on the DVLA site - 2006 I think. Also you can check on a different part of that site when the car was first registered and stuff like its colour I think......all free.
Edit; I see people have posted during the time it took me to get the last post on-line, so you have more info. at the money and with that discrepancy it is losing attraction I suppose. Post the number plate up.
I don't know the legalities of these things, but if it turned out to be a ringer and its original identity could be ascertained I guess you would risk losing your investment and the car.
There's restored and 'restored'. If the body, engine and interior are all not correct, then that should ring lots of alarm bells. Especially if there isn't much paperwork to authenticate the changes.
Is the restoration a good one or a shyt one. I can tell you that by the time you have welded new panels, floors, new interior rebuilt or exchanged the engine/gearbox, brakes \pipes, paint etc. there aint much left of any original Stag as it left the factory.
