severe water leak in head and water pump problems

Hi to all - Two issues - [I] had to pull the inlet manifold to fix a severe coolant leak from under the pump housing where it bolts to engine. Bought water pump repair kit and rebuilt the pump. However after refitting leak still as bad. [2] When removing the manifold I found there were two stripped bolts which had destroyed the hole threads so I re-drilled new threads and fitted hellicoils. This was the beginning of a real issue as I drilled too deep in the left bank and apparenntly went through into the water jacket and that not being the worst when spinning over the engine water spurted out through the inlet port with force.

No 1 can be rectified by closing off water supply to the old pump and fitting an electric pump etc. No 2 well I am stuck with that one the only thing I can think of is to plug the hole deep down with Sellys epoxy steel putty well fixing coolant from coming out of the bolt should be fixed however would it fix the hole from water jacket to inlet port. Any suggestions would be welcome please don't tell me to dump the head and replace it in that case you wouldn't replace one but the both to be sure both were equal. I live in Australia and would have a better chance to have three lawful wives - thanks Brian

can you not open the hole considerably and insert a threaded aluminium rod of larger diameter using a sealer like loctite 577 and drill & tap and drill this plug with a helicoil to accept manifold bolt, some pics would help if you can post them.
re pump fit the external water pump mechanical more reliable better job all round

If you have drilled into the water jacket you can use UKC3163, it's the end plug at the back of the head to blank off the oil gallery, all you need to do is drill and tap the correct size for the plug, cut off the top and fit it with loctite.

Thanks tonyh and stagmuffin - while waiting for replies I plugged the hole at bottom of thread with Selley's Knead It Steel Epoxy Putty and screwed the bolt into the new hellicoil thread tightly and left it for 24 hours. Haven't tested yet. Do you think I should re-drill it and fit the plug the ukc3163 probably seems the best of the two suggested ones. Did you mean screw this plug as far down in the hole as possible below the actual bolt thread. Also I didn't know about an external water pump are you talking about one that would be driven by the pulley. If so any ideas where I may look for that as a great idea. Thanks again as I said before living in Australia not a lot of support or knowledge here.
