    Retrosound Model Two

    Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone has tried the Retrosound Model Two unit and their thoughts on it.

The features all look decent and connecting it looks pretty straight forward but I haven't been able to locate an actual unit to hear what it actually sounds like. Obviously speaker type & mounting location and wiring will all have an impact but not really sure what their 4x25w is going to sound like... that is for those days I'm not listening to the burble!

    Any thoughts and opinions appreciated.

Quite a few reviews on tinterweb. A youtube one here:

Looks a nice bit of kit, havn't got one myself but not heard anything bad about them. The spec looks decent and honest. Output quoted at 4 x 25W (rms) at 12V into 4Ohms. This is quite comprehensive. As you say what will make the bigger difference to the actual sound quality is the speaker type, position and housings.

      Hi Roger,

Yeah, seen a few YouTube clips, oddly almost all are from the States - the clips and the specs are what have been selling it to me. Have just mounted one of the Retrosound dual cone dash speakers... a cosy fit to say the least. Down the line will pop a couple of speakers into the cubby holes but on radio install just going to run a couple of lines down ready for that. It's not the cheapest of kits though so hence the hunt for opinions.

      Many thanks,
      Tariq

        Hi Tariq
I have fitted one of the retrosound units this year
Not sure of the model as iv thrown the box away
no bluetooth but ipod lead and electric aerial lead
I just went for the black back plate
It looks good and sound good ( as well as any radio can sound in a convertible )
got it off flea bay for around £150
        Hope this helps
        John

          Hi John,

Yes, that's useful, I know it's subjective but it's good to know the sound's good given wind and burble. You got a pretty good price, the model two has some specs that bump the price up quite a bit but might be worth taking a look around the net for that £150 one.

          Thanks!

            Hi Tariq,
I do have a Retrosound Model One, the twin cone dash speaker (yes, very tight) and two speakers in the cubbies. It makes a pretty good sound for such a "constrained" layout, goes loud enough and doesn't seem to distort at all badly. It's mainly playing 70s on 7 from my Sirius XM receiver through the Aux channel. The MW/FM (none of this new-fangled DAB stuff in the US yet, if ever) reception is very solid. It doesn't look like a starship console and I'm very pleased with it, I have to say.

            Cheers,

            Chris

              Hi Chris,

Appreciate your thoughts. Mine will definitely getting it's dose of 70s through the speakers.... top down on a sunny day...

Just checked the Model One and does look good, it's 50w per channel instead of the Model Two 25w per channel... might have to start looking for a Model One now!

              Thanks,
              Tariq

                Hi Chris,

Did you have any problems with your Retrosound and audio interference? I've installed mine and keep getting strange interference, it's not the ignition clicking nor the alternator whine. It's an intermittent cutting out of all audio.

I've tried an audio suppressor on the ignition coil, and also a combined one directly on the switched feed of the unit.
I've tried it with points ignition on the car, and also electric.
I've wired the permanent feed from the cigarette lighter, also directly to the fuse box.
                I've removed all aerial connections.
I've also had a replacement unit sent!

Yet it still cuts out. The only time it runs perfectly is with ignition on but engine not running.

Was wondering if you had any problems with your install?

                Thanks,
                Tariq

I've fitted this one to my Stag with a twin speaker dashboard speaker and, considering the constraints of such a system, I'm really surprised at the sound, the volume, the tuning and the simplicity of it. I found the value for money astounding!
