    Andrew,

It should maintain engine speed up to about 2700rpm, then slip. The accepted test is to spin it by hand and it should stop within a couple of blade widths.

Hi Dave, thanks, that's what I thought but I can spin it easily when it's hot but there is no play fore and after on the viscous. When cold, it seems sticky which is correct

There shouldn't be any difference between hot and cold. Viscous couplings work on the principle of fluid shear, and aren't thermostatic. Similar looking thermostatic couplings were fitted to many other vehicles, but not Triumphs.

My gauge doesn't move, idle or normal driving, it just stays vertical(ish)

My viscous coupling just went, no warning, just a mild jolt from the engine bay shortly followed by smoke. Luckily I was 300 yards from my regular garage and got there without any further damage (probably lucky as could have damaged the radiator). New part was £80 sourced from Leacy Classics in Birmingham, who were very quick and helpful. But when I searched, not many sources available. Is everyone switching to Kenlowes? I'm happy with the original set-up.

Wow Paul, you were lucky to escape without rad damage.

So very true Andrew, especially as I only put in an upgraded radiator last year!

Lucky indeed. Search online for TKC101 and there are several options, including David Manners: http://www.jagspares.co.uk/Abingdon/...?partno=TKC101

Leacy Classics seem to be growing, and supplying quality parts.

Thanks for David Manners link DJT (Dave?) not come across them before, so always good to know of new potential suppliers. LD Parts is my usual default, but Peter doesn't stock everything!
