Hi,
Part of the ongoing saga of the restoration of XCE 357L. We have a small high pressure oil leak, I say high pressure because it only happens at 3000 rpm and above. The leak is from one of the three high pressure oil bearing components situated on the right hand side of the engine below the exhaust manifold.
We are not sure as yet whether it's the transfer housing, the oil pump or the oil filter casing. We suspect it's either the transfer casing or the pump because we have changed the filter and replaced the 'O' ring.
We are going to try to 'look' at the components with the engine running using an endoscope connected to a smartphone but even if we know which one is the problem it seems that from earlier experiences we won't be able to fix the problem from below with the front part of the exhaust removed.
Can anyone tell us whether we can access these three components with the right hand exhaust manifold removed or is it 'oh joy oh joy' an engine out job?
