Last week I removed the n/s head to investigate possible HGF. Fortunately all studs and bolts just gave up without a struggle and the head was off within the hour.
I didn't want to just clean surfaces and fit new head gasket. I wanted to be satisfied that the head wasn't warped.
After researching the Forum, I came across a recommendation from Simon (Knockwurst) for Pheonix Rebores of Hereford.
I was due to take Mother and Daughter to Dartmouth for a couple of days this week and before setting off on Monday morning I phoned Pheonix, asked if I could drop the head off to them around lunchtime for their assessment for collection on the homeward journey on Wednesday afternoon.
On Monday I arrived at Pheonix with the head to be greeted by Will, the owner. He took it to the back of the workshop, set it up on a jig and cleaned the face with some rough paper and then checked it for flatness with a straight edge and feeler gauges.
With no obvious warping of other faults to report he put the head in an industrial dishwasher for 10 minutes, then blasted it with an airline to dry it.
I was in and out within half an hour without the need to call in on the return journey. Great service and better value. A real find and I can face the job of refitting with added confidence.
