Unforseen problem when fitting distributor and electronic ignition and a question

My local garage is fitting a refurbished distributor and Lumenition electronic ignition. Mark 1 Stag.
It looks as if the ballast bypass wire from the starter motor overheated and burnt some time ago, possibly when the starter motor was replaced before I bought the car.
Extra work to be done before he starts on the ignition.

Was there anything ever attached to the connector at the rear of the right cylinder head (behind the offending wire in the picture)? There is a hose connected to the one on the left one.

Early Mk1 Stags had an overheating warning light in the right hand head. Because the light spent far too much time lit, I believe there was an official dealer modification to cut the wire to stop it working!

Thanks, this is a later Mark 1 so may never have had one?

AFAIK all the Mk1s were so fitted. I have the dealer notes folder wherein the official instruction to remove the connection for the overheat light is noted, but I don't know where it is just now to get the effective date. I did post about it last year so a search might turn it up on here.

According to James Taylor the switch was deleted from LF13344HE, but wasn't connected on the assembly lines from March 1971, which is about the time the dealers were instructed to disconnect them on customer's cars.

I would imagine that most early Stags have had some head work done by now and the switch has been lost in the process.

I'm not at home but John has just sent me pictures of the remedial work. Now he can start on the original job, the distributor and electronic ignition.
