SC parts cv jointed shafts withdouble row bearing hubs

I bought a set of these a while back s/h low usage and seemed perfectly fine ,i have with help fitted them and they were easy enough but the n/s unit dropped the shaft form the inboard plunge joint twice .first time took it out and reassembled this time just wheeled it into the box and shut the door run out of time .I had no destructions with these but since after some searching last night found some poor install ones on the sc site .it appears that its possible they need spacers fitting behind the cup on the diff side to pack out ! i just thought they would be made to size for the stag obviously not .........has anyone else fitted these type and did they use a spacer and what was the method of determining a true length with radial allowance so as no lock up .

Steve I purchased mine from Robsport however they are from http://www.classicdrivingdevelopment.co.uk/ I would suggest giving them a ring they will be able to tell you where to measure from I beleive that it is from the diff flange to the face of the trailing arm. I also know that they can get new shafts made to measure as I thought I might need some made when I fitted the triumph 2000 mk1 trailing arm on my stag.

        Cheers Glenn

Seem to recall from somewhere that TR6 shafts were sold to fit Stags and there was difference in lengths. I'll try to find it

The Tr6 ones are a different length but the ones CDD sell are (having spoken to the guy that runs CDD) made to fit so you can't have TR6 ones on the Stag because they are too short.
I suspect the ones being offered by SC are just TR ones being sold to fit the Stag - when they do not.

The CDD ones are different in a number of ways, you can see some differences from the photos but I know that Rob's only sell the CDD ones.

I was going to get a set but then decided I will get my Datsun shafted hubs re-built instead eventually.

            Cheers

hi John have been reading a bit about tr fitments they have a offset in the diff that throws up problems and are apparently not happy at some angles .

Dave yes they do sell spacers 15/20/25mm 60 to 80 bucks a set depending on what you need

Glenn thanks i will talk to them ,it cant be a problem as its merely an extension ,just bloody annoying to have to keep whipping them in and out and my exhaust system not std is in the way lucky itss fitted with V bands easy to dismantle .

Thanks Bob be handy to have a reference as to length.

mike thanks i will be ringing the guys there soon for a chat

                Hi steve,
I read somewhere that the SC shafts were short and would not let you drop the suspension fully, as they pulled apart. I think it was on this forum. The member had to send them back to The manufacturer to have them repaired. I bought some recently from CDD and they fit perfect. SC at the time were selling the old design ones off cheap as they have brought out a newer design.

Alisdair at classic driving is very knowledgeable and will help you out I am sure.

Just a point to remember, the operating range for overall length on these CV jointed shafts are controlled by the shock absorber extension, they are made to operate within the parameters of the standard shock range.
If non standard shock absorbers with a longer travel are fitted OR if the shock absorber is removed at the hub end of the shaft and the trailing arm allowed to fully depress without being controlled it can still allow the CV shaft to overextend it's operating range and damage the bearings.
If the trailing arm needs fully dropping to full droop, before the shock absorber is removed at the hub end the CV driveshaft should be unbolted at the flange at the diff and just teased off the bolts preventing any overextension of the joints.

                      Hi Stagmuffin
I fitted mine last year and although I thought they were shorter (about 5mm) they fitted easy enough and worked well so far.
I have re-torqued once and checked again twice no more clonking and twitching so fingers crossed.
There are two differ part numbers for the TR6 ones and the Stag make sure you have the right ones
                      cheers Jim

I forgot to mention too Steve that when I spoke to Alastair at CDD he asked if I would be driving the car hard or normal sensible driving - if were to be the former he suggested the Datsun type shafts they make rather than the CV jointed ones as they are stronger and more favoured for hard use.

                        Cheers
