steering problem

Good evening all, i have had a momentary problem a couple of times, now, with my steering. When driving along it has suddenly seemed to lock, and taken a sharp movement of the wheel to be able to turn. This happens quickly but is a bit worrying. Wondered if anybody else ad experienced this, Thanks

check the Ujs on the lower steering coupling they may need oiling etc,also make sure you haven't got a leak,is the power steering fluid topped up

Had a similar problem, check the above first but could be the spool valve on the rack playing up ended changing my rack.

Thanks, fluid is topped up, and have given joints a good squirt with WD40. It almost feels like something gets jammed, but a sharp turn clears it again. Car did sit around in an old fellas garage for several years going not very far!

It's the bit with the white seals on it could not find any info on taking this apart and repairing, unless someone knows better?

it felt like it was stuck in the central position, ok on slight left or right lock , would all knock when passing the central position, very disconcerting when coming to a bend, the missus also noticed it when we was driving along

see if your carpets are not caught

Have you checked the bottom ball joints on the front suspension?

I had exactly the same problem, and in my case squirting the UJ's on the steering shaft in the engine bay solved the problem.
