extra instrument light on my loom

I'm just going over my instrument panel loom and have identified 6 instrument light bulbs. 2 large for speedo and tacho, 3 medium for 2 inch gauges and 1 wire pair that was next to the clock wire which I assume was for the clock illumination (long gone, its going to be an oil pressure gauge)

That leaves me 1 extra.. its a small one same as the brake and seatbelt warning bulbs but has black and red/white wires..

any ideas where this goes? it comes out near the hazard switch, could reach to the speedo. BTW Its a Federal LHD

Don't know but if you could extend it and fit a light around the heater control? You can't see these when driving in the dark.

Didn't Federal cars have a heater controls light? Or was that US spec Spitfires?

See the following https://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID005468. It shows the part that houses the light above the heater controls. Part no 726560

I have identified that on the console loom, which is where the diagram puts it.

I'm using a "prospero garage"diagram which has a few mistakes but clearly shows 7 instrument bulbs in that instrument panel loom, problem is it marks one of them as "license plate light" which is strange but no help.

In the back of my mind I seem to remember a bulb in a strange place but for the life of me cannot remember where, should have taken a photo!

I guess all will be revealed when I put it back together in a year or two!

            Terry,

The ROM wiring diagrams for all early Stags, including USA cars with Heater or A/C, show 6 x instrument lamps (27), plus the cigarette lighter illumination (26) and the auto-shift selector illumination (25) being fed by RW wires from the rheostat (24).

Thats probably a Mk1 diagram? every ROM diagram I have seen has been Mk1, the giveaway is the alternator relay and control. I would LOVE to lay my hands on a proper diagram from commission LE20272... The prospero is OK but the colours are not very clear. Plus there are mistakes, e.g. the interior light switch and a couple of relays have the wrong pin no's and that Borg/warner light would not work! but basically it ties in with my 73 federal with A/C

              Heres mine..

              wires.jpg

It shows 7 lights in the instrument loom, the one to the right is probably the one I am chasing. (the circled#2 is the instrument loom plug)
also shows 3 lights in the console loom, (the circled#5 is the console loom plug) - heater, ciggy lighter and borg/warner There I found the heater light on a long fly lead and a double bullet which I assume would feed the lighter and Borg/warner (if I had one)

the rougue light would not reach any of those items in the console, even the heater light.

                HAH!!

I got out my parts box and found it.. There is a HAZARD indicator just below the hazard switch

It must be simply a lit indicator to show the Americans where the switch is! and I did take a picture..

                Or Australians? its upside down!

That plug in the photo is from a Mk 1 loom. The Mk2 has a different type of plug and socked.

No, its definitely from my Mk2.. I have the hazard switch that matches, its the same as the Mk2 one shown in Rimmers

Who Knows, there's a late Spitfire one with a different plug..
