Rust under windscreen rubber

Hi all

Im just having some bodywork done on the scuttle panel and have had the windscreen removed which revealed a bit of rust under the windscreen rubber,now it needs some welding here but I need to remove the dash.

Can anyone advise me how to remove the dash and has anyone got any tips who may have done a similar job themselves.

Also I bought a windscreen rubber off of South East Kent Trimmers,now I read it might not work on my Mk1 car anyone shed any light on this.

Removing the dash is staright forward butt messy.Its only secured by a few bolts at each end and at the back. However, the messy bit is disconnecting all the wiring to the instruments and the air vent hoses. Make sure you label each wire as you disconnect it.

If yours is an early car it may also be bolted to a support panel behind the centre console. You will also need to unbolt the steering column from underneath the fascia.

I'm not 100% sure without looking but I think there are two bolts in the A-postat each end, one accessed from inside the car and one fromoutside inthe door shut. Behind the fascia it is bolted to two mountings that just need to be loosened if I remember correctly.

On my car it had leaked so much around the screen area that the some of the bolts in the bottom of the fascia had rusted andseized and sheared when I tried to undo them and the ends of the panel had rusted badly. I ended up fitting a replacement fascia panel.
