    Wiring of Inertia Switch

    Hi chaps,
Following my thread on fire insurance and the Cut-out Switch, I have located mine in the box of bits that came with the car and tested it and it seems to work.
So, I go "a searchin" and found hidden a terminal block with 4 grey wires (2 cables) close to the Inertia Switch bracket.
Are these likely to be the wires I need to connect the switch up with, if so in what order do I do it? Each pair has a solid grey wire and a grey with black stripe wire.
The WSM image looks to show only 3 wires involved and the Wiring Diagram didn't seem to help.

Thanks as always in advance for your help.

There should only be 2 wires. A white wire carrying ignition switched 12v and a white/light green wire going to the fuel pump. The inertia switch breaks this 12v fuel pump supply when it triggers. It doesn't matter which wire goes to which terminal on the inertia switch.

I've missed your thread on cut out switch but from the above it sounds as if the switch is missing? I'm by no means expert but I would expect that if the switch is missing you will find that the two wires have been connected together to provide a permanent live feed to the pump. If that is the case they should be near the inertia switch location.

That's what I thought Dave (There should only be 2 wires)
Is it possible that the Lumenition system has robbed this cable? I notice a similar coloured wire going to it nearby.
I'm fine with domestic electrics but somewhat nervous with vehicles.

        Thanks for your response,
        Regards,

No, I've got the switch, it's the wiring I'm having difficulties with.
As you say, and I'd have expected that there would have been a reconnection somewhere. As yet it's not obvious.

Traditionally, the Lumenition +ve battery feed has come from the inertia switch. So it could be that that wire has been run direct to the Lumenition box.
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

              Thanks Wilf,
...and I think I've now found the wire that was cut and used but why hasn't it been bridged?

Mine has a white wire from the 12v supply and a white / yellow wire going to the fuel pump. I also have lumenition electronic ignition and the the 12v supply to that is seperate. My intertia switch was also missing on my car when i got it, it was bridged with a spade fuse ( handy to keep for when the switch fails!). My switch gave me loads of problems until i took it apart and found rust / sludge all over the magnet which was allowing the ball bearing to jump up and break the circuit every time i went over a speed bump, cleanec it all, smeared in vaseline and all has been well since.

                  Thanks Dave,
The problem I seem to have is one of tracing the original feed to the switch.
The white yellow wire, that I'm now beginning to believe went via the switch, looks to be feeding the EI and there's a cut wire taped up in a position that suggests it could be the other end, but it's not bridged. So, if my assumption is correct, how the Sam Hill is the pump working?
I've decided to go no further at present as we are going to the ESM in a few days and this is not the time to be tinkering. However, I will be looking under bonnets and bending some ears whilst tasting the local tipples in Switzerland.
Anyway, even if I don't get an answer, I'm, sorry we, are going to have a good time!!

                  Regards,
                  Brian
