Would you pay for a rusty look?

Here's a completely new one one me: http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C868952
I did read recently about a pair jeans covered in mud for sale at £££. Do you think a Stag will be worth more if it has the real rusty look rather than this spray on effect?! The world HAS gone mad!

Nothing to do with cars, but in the world of model railways (which is another of my hobbies) you pay more for locomotives that have been "weathered" to look their age more, than you do for "pristine" ones because they look their age & therefore are more realistic, particularly in the case of old diesel & steam locomotives.

For example of the 2 "Western" models shown below, the top "weathered" model costs more to buy than the "new" one below (apologies for the "fuzzy" photo of bottom one).

Until recently there was a rust coloured VW beetle that did the school run past the farm.
At first I thought it had been stripped of paint and left to rust, then when I got to see it close up I could see the "rust" was peeling off and revealing the original blue paint where it hadn't been rubbed down properly before spraying!

Its called a "Rat Look".. Has been around for a few years. There are a lot of the old VW campers around used by "surfer" doods that have this look. Often its "genuine" peeled paint and rust, flatted back and sprayed in lacquer to prevent it getting worse. Each to their own!

Just google "rat look" and see the images that come up.

A chap round the corner has a lovely old Chrevolet pick up with this look. I will try and get a picture. If it's artificial then it's very convincingly!

Just done that - never realised there were so many motorists doing it - and to Rolls Royes, Range Rovers, and Porches , etc.
Can't see the point of it myself - unless your an exhibitionist who wants to look different from the crowd. Never seen one in the flesh though, certainly not in Tenerife.

Could well be that your firm has put a block on displaying pictures or Links on Private Emails. Try your home PC (assuming you have one).
