Something strange has happened to the Fuel consumption...

Standard 3 speed auto
Failed MOT on emissions
Adjusted the carbs down so that it passed with flying colours and noticed that the car was really performing much better all round,so left the adjustment like it was.
Went to Ulverston and covered 272 miles in total brimmed it before I left and repeated this on return and could only squeeze 8.5 gallons in
32mpg???
I shall try again shortly I do hope that's right and not just a fluke I have covered 3000miles since the beginning of January and the car actually is performing better with each passing day

On my 76 Auto the speedo and mileage reading are some 18% over compared to the sat nav. If yours was the same, it would bring it back to 27 MPG. Very good indeed, and possible for a good gentle run.

I shall no doubt be travelling hither and yon very soon and will check again Certainly I'm pretty certain that the mileage was accurate as it tallied with similar trips recently completed via S-Type Jaguar and Volvo 850R...but could of course have just been a fluke and yes I just weakened the mixture and found that the car ticked over at a lower RPM picked up much better and the plugs were always on the dark side and are now a nice light tan colour and of course I run the car on Super Unleaded 97 octane which the car was designed to use.
But I am well aware that I might have not quite filled the tank as much as I did etc etc.
So, well have another go and recheck.
