Rear Bumper Removal

Good afternoon,
this might sound like a silly question, but can anyone tell me if removing the rear bumper is a one-person job or should I ask for help to avoid scratching the paintwork? It looks to be pretty heavy and 4 bolts, two at each end, to juggle with. Thanks in anticipation.

Yes. Undo the side bolts 9/16 socket and then put a sheet down on the ground, then for extra safety, some masking tape on the side wings where it bolted on and then just undo the rear bolts and pull away and downwards.

Get help if possible, will ensure no damage to paint work, and if a Mark 1 don’t forget to dis-connect the number plate lamp wiring.

Thanks both, my car is a Mk11 but I have a rear fog lamp attached to the bumper bolt. I think that I will enlist some help as well as applying masking tape - A good tip that. Regards, John.

Well Gent's, the bumper was removed, single handed, cleaned, silver Hammerite to the rear of quarter bumpers to match the new centre section and re-assembled and re-fitted using the fitting kit from Paddocks, again all by-myself so it can be a one-person job! I put a couple of pairs of old socks (once holed they go into my polishing rags bag, they are perfect for chrome or bodywork polishing) over the ends of the quarter bumpers to prevent marking the paintwork on the wings. Plenty of Copaslip grease on all the threads. Now the nice, new centre section shows up the nearside rear over rider so I'm going to have to replace that as the next job! Regards, John.

You've been lucky then-the fun starts when the captive nuts in the corner sections break away and you have to replace them with nuts n bolts
