    Tonneau cover seal

    Hello Chaps

    I was missing the rubber strip from where the soft top cover closes over the body. Ive got the new part now (code ZKC730) from Rimmers, but unless im having a senior moment (quite possible) I cant see that this is correct to fit into the channel...
    Can anybody assist please?

      Ah I see, sort of... Quite a few versions of the rubber/foam strip in that thread and differing opinions on how it should fit, but armed with this new info, im going to glue mine with the bottom of the anvil part facing away from the seat onto the vertical section of the channel. Looks close enough to me and as my car will never see any rain (in theory) im not too worried about the whole drain issue, so im going with this plan!

        That is not a tonneau seal. It looks like a hard top one to me. The correct one should have a square section to fit neatly in to the channel with some adhesive, and the "Tongue" ought to face inwards, so that it doesn't get caught up as the lid is closed.

          I'm with Dasadrew on this, the channel is designed to allow the exit of fluid so why fill it with a square section bit of rubber and then glue it in place.
          But I am with you that the tongue points inwards as when I fitted mine, I just lay in in position and it works, no glue needed, if the other way around, it flips over. Anyway, where does the water come from if the soft top's outer edge is OK, it may have a little "syphon" back under the edge of the soft top and if it can get into the channel it will exit down the tubes at either end of the channel. The seal just stops fluid getting inside the car!!

            Lingen is correct in that the original seal is square.

              I must admit to being pretty neutral on this seal subject. I fitted the complex "anvil" cross section as my Stag had that fitted at least as far back as the mid 80's when the car was just 10 years old, and as it seems to allow the drainage function of the channel and draintubes to work better. Interestingly, the picture of Stag LD1 in James Taylor's book shows a seal which doesn't even seem to sit in the channel, but which seems to clip over the channel flange.

              With all the experience gained from this Forum, I myself would hesitate on making a definitive statement on what the factory fitted to every Stag across all 6 configurations (Original + 5 Sanctions) and two production sites.

                Well,thought I'd check my seal after noticing water dripping into the boot by the hinges whilst the wife was soaking the soft top with a hose.Think mine had been fitted wrongly from year dot !!IMG_1018.jpgIMG_1022.jpgIMG_1028.jpg.Now which way should I refit it,obviously wasn't high enough before but looked good with the hood down so if I fit it with the lip facing inward it leaves the groove exposed but able to divert the water to the drain tubesIMG_1030.jpgIMG_1032.jpg
