    Oil stained rear

My car always exhibits an oil film on the rear valence and bumper in the vicinity of the exhaust.
The engine uses about 1 pint of oil between the 3,000 mile oil & filter changes.
    I use VR1.

I think it was Neil who said one of his engines does that, may be due to pistons?

    Any further discussion welcome.

What tailpipes do you have? My old Mk1 Stag had the 'big bore' Mk1 tailpipes and had the same film, even after an engine rebuild. My current Stag has the Mk2 'small bore' tailpipes and there is no sign of a film. I've heard the same from other owners. The theory being that the smaller bore tail pipes shoot the exhaust further from the back end. Might be bllx, but there may also be some truth in it.

I have the same problem with big bore tailpipes- engine rebuilt and definitely no piston problems and oil use is very minimal similar to yours Richard..

Thanks Dave & Mike. My car does have larger tailpipes. A new exhaust is somewhere down my shopping list, so I might specify smaller ones.
