    Seat repair

    Hi All

I recently purchased foams, diaframs etc from Aldridges for my front seats so no more aching back after every drive. I was thinking of doing the work myself as I believe it is something a very averager DIYer can do, so is there a "how to guide" and also do I Need any specialist Tools/sprays etc

    cheers

No doubt somebody with more experience will be along soon, but the tip I was given was to make sure you put a thin layer of plastic / cling film over the seat first to aid the covers going on afterwards. It's also quite a messy job I understand!

    Cheers

yep, cling film over the foam and a little talc helps the new covers slip over.

Make sure the bead edge is nice a straight before clipping or securing anything

Probably goes without saying measure 16 times, cut holes once - to save neighbours complaining about swearage

When i fitted mine, you have to cut a slot in the foam for the seat cover tabs to come through,i also added a bit more foam to the sides,as i found them a bit flat, glue i used was evo stick, spray the glue on one side at time, gluing the sides first stops the seat cover moving around when finished, another thing i did was fold the tabs in half to double them up helps to stop the tabs from braking when you pull some tension on them

Look in the Forum Technical Section under Body/Interior. Vmad posted a 'how to' guide to seat cover replacement.

Use silicone spray on the foam and the covers will just glide on . Make sure you do it in the warm so the vinyl is soft and if the fit is a bit baggy put some Dacron fibre over the foam to take up the slack .you can hold that in place with some stockinet like you use for polishing the car as it is tubular and holds around the foam and fibre then silicone it and cover.

Make sure you do it outside or put a large sheet down. This is how my foam came out
