    18ACR Alternator Types

    Hi
My alternator packed in (18ACR). I ordered a new one - same type 18ACR
However, now I have the old one off the car and the new one next to it there is a difference in the wiring connectors.
The original has a connector block with 3 spades: 2 large brown and 1 standard Brown/Yellow. It also has a separate brown wire with another standard spade. The new alternator only has connectors for the connector block. There is on additional connector for the standard brown wire.

Any ideas on what this extra wire does and if it's needed?

Your spare wire is no longer needed. Just insulate it and tie it off neatly. You may also need to adjust the mounting bracket clearance if it is too small. The split circular spacer on the alternator can be tapped back to get the alternator to fit, and it will be pulled in to place as you tighten the long fixing bolt.
    Mike.
