    Cross fertilisation

Five years ago I retired and made a midlife crisis decision to buy a Triumph Stag.
I’ve endured the stripped thread, coolant leaking, and head removal traumas known to many of us but due, in large part, to the help, inspiration and encouragement provided by the SOC Members via the Forum I have been able to overcome all problems and when I take my Stag for a drive I am rewarded with “smile on face” enrichment which few other activities could provide. Steady now.
I will always remember my posting requesting advice on the Forum relating to heater control cable clips. I HAD A RESPONSE FROM AN AUSTRALIAN STAG OWNER WITHIN 17 MINUTES!!!
Recently, the Forum has had its fall outs and technical problems but let me tell you that this Forum is the best!
Early this year I bought a 1980 MGBGT . I thought I’d keep this alongside the Stag. I immediately joined the MGOC expecting to enjoy the same benefits I’d experienced in the SOC . Not quite as good. Despite this, I was exposed to some very positive experiences such as very knowledgeable individuals and innovative ideas and initiatives.
Two years ago, I bought my 17 yr old daughter her first car, a VW Beetle. What did I do? I joined the VWOC. My first request for advice on the VW Forum received 43 views with 0 responses.
My point is that not only should we recognise that we belong to the best Classic Owners Club on the planet but also identify opportunities to extend our lead.

    My suggestion is:
Those of us who inhabit other Forums (or is it Forum?) could identify and put forward for honorary membership those members of other Forum who could make a positive contribution to the SOC and thereby provide some cross fertilisation of ideas to the benefit of all in the classic car world.
    What do you think?

I joined retro rides, I hardly post on there but I'm amazed at people's skill and endeavour to keep classics (both old and modern classics) on the road.

im not too sure any of the retro rides posters would join the SOC forum though.

    Nice idea though.

perhaps my suggestion should have been more specific.
Like me, if you are a member of another owners club, you could submit 2 names from the other club to be offered honorary (free) membership to SOC. A consensus of 1 name would identify the candidate.
Naturally we would expect reciprocal treatment from other clubs.

I am a moderator on the (Hillman) Imp Club forum, which is operated by the Club. There are some very helpful and knowledgeable members of the forum, the majority of them also being members of the Club.

One of them actually shares my enthusiasm for the Triumph Stag too! I am not sure whether or not he is a member of the SOC.

It is a good idea to cross fertilise fora like ours with others to share ideas. However, it does of course depend upon the willingness of others to join us.

I agree that we have a good thing going on this forum - most of the time.
