Being a newish member of the SOG and having only just registered on this new forum may I be the first on this forum to ask for advice. I have a 1978 Stag nearing completion of a nut and bolt restoration. My question is what was the radio that was fitted as standard?

Hi, and welcome.
From information I have gleaned over the years, Triumph did not offer a radio as standard. This was a 'dealer-fit' option and therefore various radios were fitted from new. Having said that, I believe the choice was limited, so most would have had Radiomobile or Motorola PB radios fitted. The large hole in the dash would have accommodated8-track tape players.
You can often find period radios on eBay, some modified with updated FM internals and an ipod connectionso they look right but perform like a modern unit.

This might help: http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/old_car_radios.htm
I know there is a company that specialises in refurbishment and modernisation of old car radios, but I can't find details at the moment. Perhaps someone else will know.
Good luck,
Dave
