    New Stag New Member

    Hi

Just purchased OJW 561R (76 manual Pimento Red) from Stag Club Member Gary S. Formerly owned by quite a few people, but none of them seemed to drive it very much. It recently (pre-Gary) appears to have been parked for a lengthy period - it has had 66 miles put on it since 2009. One other owner appears to have been a SOC member, a Mr Mandell in Spalding.

Now happily waiting at Faversham ready to be recommissioned soon. Looking forward to restoring and enjoying it over the next few years.

I have ordered the British Car Museum details on the car, because strangely the LD number ends in 'OK', which should signify it is an Overdrive (it is) with KPH speedo (not present). Additionally it has some foreign smog equipment on it that Trevor has only seen on re-imported cars, such as the Australian one they are restoring right now. She was first registered in the UK in October 1976 so no evidence of being exported, so a bit puzzled as it why it never got shipped out of the country.

Thanks for all the tips and advice in advance!

    Jeff

Welcome, nice to see the correct colour of Stag being bought! All the extra bits may have been fitted to get rid of them

It could have been a soft export to an overseas serviceman or Foreign Office staff. They avoided UK taxes and then could reimport when their tour of duty expired.

Interesting, thanks Chris. Can't wait to see the heritage certificate to see what it says.

Here's a pic of the soon-to-be-junked smog gear, in the lower right with associated hoses.

Here's hoping you don't need a new battery!

Oddly enough it already has a new battery, but it's the wrong size so if I get an influx of cash I may replace it. However as Trevor said, it starts it so maybe best to concentrate on more pressing items....like tyres.

Thanks for all the kind words and welcome. Look forward to hopefully meeting some or all of you out on the road. Just signed up for SOC membership.
