    Accelerator Cable Fitting

    Good morning all

I am fitting a new accelerator cable and wondered about a couple of things re positioning.

I think the one already fitted was a PO fitting so not put in the original position.

    Can anyone tell me please?

    a) How (if indeed at all) does the outer cable secure to the bulkhead?
    b) Should the cable be clipped anywhere in the engine bay before it get to the first point on the throttle linkage?
    c) At the point that the outer cable cover reaches the throttle linkage, what should stop it moving through the hole in the linkage (if it is not secured to the bulkhead)? The PO had a washer positioned just before the linkage to stop the outer cable passing through the linkage but this seems sloppy and incorrect to me.

I have looked at various pictures but nothing details the correct (possibly missing item) to do the job.

Lastly do you take up all the slack in the cable making sure that the pedal is at its highest point before securing the cable with the screw?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Mick,
Just fitted one myself and had some of your concerns also but turned out not to be a worry.

The outer sleeve butts up to the bulkhead and the linkage and is held there by the slight tension in the overall installation. I haven't clipped mine, nor was the original.
When finally taking up the slack to tighten the screw don't over pull the inner cable. A neither loose or too tight fitting is what your looking for. In addition, add a further terminal to the end to give you "belt and braces" security.

    Hope that helps,

    Regards,
    Brian

      Thanks Brian

      That's great information thank you.

The screw that secures the cable looks a little flimsy doesn't it?
What did you use to further secure it? Something small I'm assuming so it doesn't catch?

      Cheers

        Glad to have helped Mick.

Yes, it is flimsy, which is why I added the extra terminal. I broke out a terminal from an old fused spur. A terminal from an electric plug or socket should suffice.

        Kind regards,

        Brian

          Ah! What a fab idea.

I'd been racking my brains to try and find a small enough solution.

          Thanks again.
