My oil light has stop working ,also H/brake light as well
i have an earth at the terminal and nothink thewireis sitting at earth when i give it a live it lights up the light
i have look at the wiring diagram and it seems to get its live from a white splice jiont and from a fuse
can any body tell me which fuse and where is the splice connection

    Steve,

Is your's a Mk1 or Mk2 - I think there're differences. If it's a Mk1.5, look at the Warning Cluster - if it's got a single Indicator light, consider it as a Mk1, if it has separate left and right, then Mk2. On the Mk2, the "white wire circuit" originates from the "Hot" side of the Screen Wiper Motor fuse (ie the white wire circuit isn't fused). This is in the main fusebox, 3rd from the Near side wing. Could be the connector has become detached or a wire fractured. If it's here (Mk2 remember), then I'd expect other warning lights to be affected also (Choke, Fuel, Ignition). Not sure where the various connectors are.

However, I'd first be looking to check the individual bulbs in the Warning Cluster and keeping an eye out for loose connections in the flying socket that connects to it. This requires removal of the dash (4 x cross-heads). With the Ignition on, give the white wires a wiggle and see if this brings the lights on. Switch Ign OFF and pull the flying socket off. Removal of the Warning Cluster is fairly straightforward to do, but would take a lot of words Just watch when you open up the Cluster, do it face down to avoid the coloured lenses falling out.

Check the bulb filaments and also ensure they're screwed firmly in place. Replacements are available from pretty much all Stag suppliers, but all currently available have bodies a wee bit fatter than originals. Many folk have found shaving a bit off the inside of the "ring" with a scalpel works. You can trial check with the Cluster out of the dash, but remember that, with the IGN on, that the white wires aren't fused, and the 12V battery can deliver a lot of Amps.

Also, corrosion can occur at the Cluster plug connectors and the flying socket - sometimes working the two together can clean the contacts up. If you've got a multimeter, you could try some faultfinding, but don't force a fat probe into the female connectors on the flying socket as this may cause permanent opening up leading to further bad connections.

      Thanks
      My stag is a1973
I have just refitted the dash after renewing the heater matrix ,and went through removing all the daed wiring ie speaker wiring old alarm wiring and cleaning up the loom
i have just purchase the car and some electrics was not working

Sored out the interior lights, mne had a hazard switch fitted but no loom so wired up hazards
the chock warning lamp is working but the oil switch wire is resting at earth. when i give it a live with my probe the cluster lamp lights up
also notice that the brake valve light is on as well which i think is on the same white wire loom

i think its the brake valve bulb (white wire and black with a ble trace) the bulb will not reach the the red holder under the air vent and it much bigger thak the holder ??

        Steve,
I'm struggling a bit with understanding chunks of your post, which is not a good thing, partivularly as we're talking about an unfused circuit - any ambiguity could lead to big sparks and fried wiring.

As I understand, 73 was the year the Mk2 spec came out, but some cars were a hybrid of Mk1 and Mk2 (ie the term Mk1.5). For the bit you're concerned about, there were significant differences between Mk1 & Mk2. As I asked before, how many direction indicator lights are on your Warning Cluster? This will be a good guide to determine which wiring diagram you need to consult.

I can recommend the magnetic A3 size colour wiring diagrams produced by framebook.co.uk - gives a better fighting chance of following the wiring, particularly if you're having to work through mods by a PO.

I think you're saying that putting +12V onto the cable that connects to the Oil warning light gets it to light. This concerns me as this is the earth side of that circuit. This is obviously indicative of an error, which could be serious, Tread carefully - the warning light circuits are not fused.
